Dr. Muriel Rabone and Dr. Lupita Bribiesca-Contreras

November 4, 2025• byErin Smith

Dr. Lupita Bribiesca-Contreras is one of the marine biologists featured in How Deep Is Your Love. She is an Applied Scientist at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, working in ecology, taxonomy, and the evolution of deep-sea invertebrates. Her research focuses on the “big” invertebrates in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone, such as seastars, sea cucumbers, brittle stars, and sea urchins. Her team is also working on other groups, including the new species of cup coral featured in the film.

Dr. Muriel Rabone, co-producer and science adviser for How Deep Is Your Love, is a researcher in the Natural History Museum’s Deep-Sea Systematics and Ecology Group, with expertise in deep-ocean biodiversity and Neglected Tropical Diseases. She has been involved in science-policy since 2018 and co-leads the Deep Ocean Steward-ship Initiative’s marine genetic resources working group. Her publications include a landmark synthesis of the key region of focus for deep-sea mining exploration, and span Neglected Tropical Diseases, population genetics, deep-sea biodiversity studies, and aspects of marine policy.

Q&A moderator, Dr. Jill Olin, biological sciences, is a community ecologist who studies the processes that affect the structure and stability of ecosystems in coastal marine and freshwater ecosystems. Dr. Olin will co-moderate this panel.
